Trained by Dale Capuano, Carole’s Love covered five furlongs over a firm turf course in :55 1/5 and returned $4.80, $2.60 and $2.10. The fast-closing Sounds of the City had to settle for second, completing the $14.60 exacta and paying $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show. It was another length and a half back to Must Be Love, who paid $3 to show.

“I let her get into position,” said wining jockey Paco Lopez. “Pablo Fragoso (the rider of Natalie’s Goal) pushed me but I waited and waited because I know she’s a good filly. I waited until the sixteenth pole and then let her go, and my filly went on without stopping.”

Friday’s win was the third in 10 career starts and the second in four outings this season for Carole’s Love, a 4-year-old daughter of Not For Love and the Lucky Lionel mare Crafty Brat.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, July 7 with the Grade 1 $500,000 United Nations Stakes and the Grade 2 $200,000 Monmouth Cup on the card– gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m.
